Due to waxing being a heat treatment, under no circumstances can one get waxed prior or post using sunbeds or being exposed to the sun due to irritation skin is hot and red and waxing can cause skin to burn, it can also remove excess skin layers. Client has to wait 24 hours before and after.

Generally we say two days prior for a regular waxer. Clients who are getting waxed for the first time should get waxed one week before their holiday so the skin can settle. Ideally a first timer should arrange to get waxed a couple of months before going away and then again closer to the time. As wax is a heat treatment and wax naturally removes a layer of skin, skin is therefore more sensitive and can burn easier in the sun.

As people have different pain thresholds, it is hard to say what kind of discomfort you will experience. Pain reduces if regular waxing is maintained. Usually we advise to wax every four to six weeks. Hair follicles get weaker and hairs become thinner so it is easier to remove.

Hot wax is hotter then strip wax. It is designed to work down into the pores in the skin, attach to the bulbs like Velcro. The heat opens the pores and the wax then hardens. The wax is then removed taking with it the hair.

Hot wax will open pores and attach to the hair and bulb, taking hair and bulb when removed, this minimizes ingrown hairs. Strip wax rests on hair and hardens, a paper or cloth strip is then used to remove the wax. This procedure is much harsher on sensitive areas as it is pulled out with force, breaking the hair and sometimes not removing the bulb causing ingrowth.

An ingrown hair is caused when hair is unable to grow up and out of a pore. Some people are prone to them more than others. Strip wax can cause them due to skin in an area drying up. When hair grows it can’t get out of the pore, this in an ingrown hair.

It varies from person to person, hair should be left to grow for 2 – 3 weeks if the person has shaved, epilated or used a hair removal cream. If you are in a regular waxing routine you can wait 4 – 6 weeks before your next wax.

It varies for everyone, usually hair will start peeping out approximately 3- 4 weeks if you have shaved, epilated or used hair removal cream prior to getting waxed. Regular waxing will start to slow down the hair growth cycle.

Skin should be exfoliated to remove dead skin cells, waxing is more effective as a result. No oils or creams should be used on the day of the treatment.

This is absolutely fine. Although pain varies from person to person, sensitivity can be heightened during your period, leaving it two days before or after your period might be better.
